Guide to Rhône Valley Grape Varietals
The Rhône Valley is home to a diverse array of grape varietals that contribute to the rich flavors and aromas of our wines. In this guide discover the key grapes grown at Domaine Rouge-Bleu including Grenache, Carignan, Syrah and more; and learn how each one plays a role in creating our unique cuvées.
Grenache – The King of the Rhône
Grenache is the most widely planted grape in our vineyard. It produces wines with red fruit flavors, hints of spice and a smooth, velvety texture. It’s the backbone of many of our reds, such as the Mistral and Lunatique cuvées, adding body and depth.
Carignan – A Hidden Gem
Carignan is a rare grape in the Rhône Valley but we are proud to feature it in our Origine Carignan. This grape gives a unique profile of blackcurrant, forest fruits and spices, creating wines that are wonderfully fresh and vibrant yet also offer plenty of character.
Syrah, Mourvèdre and Beyond
Syrah brings structure and bold flavors of dark fruit and pepper to our wines, while Mourvèdre adds complexity and tannins. In our Dentelle Blanc, we use a blend of 13 different white varietals to achieve a delicate balance of acidity, floral notes and stone fruit flavors.
